Headache weather

I woke up before my alarm today, thinking about the phrase “headache weather”.

I have had a headache for two days now, and I’ve been thinking it’s due to a change in air pressure that came with the onset of spring. It’s not uncommon around here for the weather to change it’s mind several times a day, and for the most part, we roll with it.

What can you do about the weather?

To distract myself from the pain behind my eyes, I thought about the change of season that brought the change in weather, and all the other changes it brought along with it.

How everybody is showing more skin. The downtown restaurants and bars all have their patios open, and every one is full with people enjoying a little sun after a long dry winter. The birds, the damn birds, singing at the crack of dawn, thanks a lot, birds. Trees are budding, leaves popping, flowers blooming. The ice has melted off the river. Runners are out in packs. Lawns are being trimmed and prepped for what we all hope is a long summer.

A little rain now and then, but mostly, sun, and breeze, and a hint of green.

All signs of spring in the city.

I though about the plans for the coming summer. I thought about the coming year, and the years to follow.

I thought about the change of seasons, and the turn of the earth. My mind stretched out from the close, the here and now, out, and further out, and on and on, through headache weather, and storms and sun and rain and wind and night and day.

I watched the clock tick by, counting down the minutes til my alarm would go off, and I knew that I would inevitably hit the snooze button for 10 more minutes, even though I was as awake as I was going to be.

I thought about all these things in that quiet moment, and I thought about headache weather.

I have had a headache all day, and I’m feeling weirdly emotional because I watched both “the Office” and “Grey’s Anatomy” and I’m a sucker for emotionally manipulative television, and I took some pain medication, and now I’m all with the feels, and loopy, at work.

My long weekend actually begins Monday, but it’s the thought that counts, right?

Some interesting news on the work front. Being moved to another dept. Same work function, different focus. Early days still, but maybe it will be a good thing. Trying to be positive about it.

Sunday, we are going to see Star Trek, and Monday we are going to the mountains, so, yay and yay!
