Old things

  I love old things.

Maybe it’s because I am one?

  I don’t believe in ghosts, but…

…I look at old things, and I imagine what kind of life they may have had. What purpose did their owners put them to? Was it loved? I imagine the work it did, or where it might have come from. What might it have seen?

I don’t believe in ghosts, but I do believe that memory and experience attach themselves to objects. You can look at a tool, a piece of clothing, an old book, and see how it fit into it’s owner’s hand, see where it is worn from years of use. You can tell if something has been loved, or if it hasn’t. That kind of thing makes a permanent mark on an object, the same way it does on a person.

Old things are filled with secrets and mysteries, and they often know more than they tell.
