My Oscar picks…

…for 2011

I usually haven’t seen all the nominated pictures or actors when I make my picks, so I almost always go with who I *want* to win.

Best Picture - Moneyball. I’m not a sports guy, but it wasn’t just about the sports.

Actor in a leading role - Gary Oldman, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. First time nominee, can you believe that? My favourite of the nominated actors.

Actress in a leading role - Meryl Streep, The Iron Lady. Playing the odds on this one.

Actor in a supporting role - Christopher Plummer, Beginners. Yay Captain Von Trapp!

Actress in a supporting role - Mellisa McCarthy, Bridesmaids. Best part of that movie. I wonder if they give Oscars for outtakes?

Animated Feature Film - No clear choice…maybe Puss In Boots?

Cinematography - The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Shot in the dark. Although, if it was *actually* shot in the dark, that might hurt it’s chances for winning this category.

Art Direction - Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, Part Two. Hedging my bets, maybe Hugo?

Costume Design - Jane Eyre. Always go with the Brontë period piece. Always.

Directing - Martin Scorcese, Hugo. Give that man another Oscar!

Ok, skipping a couple..

Music (Original Song) - “Man Or Muppet” from The Muppets, by Bret Mckenzie. MUST WIN!

Visual effects - Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. Andy Serkis should be in the “Best Actor” category.

Writing, adapted Screenplay - Moneyball, screenplay by Stephen Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin, story by Stan Chevrin. Probably.

Writing, Original Screenplay - Bridesmaids, Annie Mumolo and Kristen Wiig. I hope.

Those are my choices. Can’t wait till the big night!
